Civil Marriage Ceremony Application

 

Please read the following carefully before proceeding to complete the form.

The Town of LaSalle offers civil marriage ceremonies at the Town of LaSalle Civic Centre during regular office hours, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the latest ceremony being performed at 3:30 p.m.

Fee: The fee for a civil ceremony is $282.50 (including HST). Please note that a 1.75% service charge (applied to the $282.50 fee) will also be applied to the card you use and will appear on your statement as a separate transaction. 

Please note that there is a separate fee for obtaining a Marriage Licence and same-day service for civil ceremonies is not available.

About the Ceremony

Location: At the Civic Centre and during regular office hours, ceremonies may be held in Council Chambers (which can accommodate up to 40 guests), in the Atrium near the living wall (which can accommodate up to 15 guests), or outdoors on the grounds of the Civic Centre. Off-site ceremonies are not available.

Officiants: Trained staff, designated by the Clerk, will act as officiants to solemnize the ceremony. The civil ceremony is a non-denominational and solemn ceremony, which adheres to the requirements of the Marriage Act, 1990.

Witnesses: The Town of LaSalle does not provide witnesses for the ceremony. Couples must provide the two witnesses. Witnesses must be 14 years of age or older. Please have your witness information readily available before completing this Application.

Photographers: Photographers and/or videographers are permitted during the ceremony.

Length: Your civil ceremony will last approximately 20 minutes. When booking your ceremony, you should allow for approximately 1 hour to allow for photo opportunities. If a language interpreter is required, more time for the ceremony may be needed. Note that couples are responsible for providing their own interpreter.

Inclusivity: The Town of LaSalle is happy to offer civil ceremony services in a safe space to all eligible couples, regardless of gender identity and/or sexual orientation.

Marriage Ineligibility: Staff holds the right to refuse to solemnize the marriage of any person they know or have reasonable grounds to believe lacks the capacity to marry  reasons for which may include the following:

  • One or both parties are under physical or mental duress
  • One or both parties fail to meet the age requirements (16 and 17-year-olds may only marry if they have consent in writing from both parents)
  • The parties are related to one another
  • One or both parties are currently married
  • One or both parties are under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and are incapable of understanding the nature of the marriage contract

Other

  • Music is not provided during the ceremony
  • Confetti, rice, bubbles, candles, and incense are not permitted during the ceremony
  • No religious references will be made during the ceremony
  • Drugs and/or alcohol are not permitted during the ceremony
